LED modules with touch functionality are a popular design consideration for the home appliance/ white good industry. The rich and flexible UI contents, smooth functionality, simple structure and programming, and low cost of this technology makes it a practical selection compared to higher end LCD modules that require more hardware and programming.
Traditional touch-type LED display modules usually use cover film with an additional ITO layer for the touch function (capacitive touch) and also adopt a bottom-emission structure for backlight. Despite the relatively simple structure, the cost of film with ITO layer combined with the need for many LED’s still makes this a bit inefficient and costly.
Zettler Displays has developed an innovative design that simulates the same touch functionality and display effects as traditional touch LED display modules, but at a lower cost due to improved architecture.
Human-Machine Interface (HMI): This new design of LED display module eliminates the expensive ITO layer on the cover film, integrating the capacitive touch function directly into the PCB pad and uses our innovative touch algorithm. This solution opens up flexibility on designs to be more tailored to application specific requirements.
LED Efficiency: With a side-lit backlight, these modules will have improved transmissivity and uniformity of light, while still performing identically to traditional LED modules but with reduced costs. The combination of side lit backlights and the new touch architecture enables manufacturing flexibilities to design solutions that are even more specific to application requirements.
Interconnectivity and Ruggedization: Zettler’s new LED modules do not require an interface from a touch ITO layer the PCB board, which enables us to reduce footprint and make improvements to production processes, like gel potting.
Zettler proudly holds a utility model patent for this design.
